In-Person -- Let's Get Ethical:
A Mediators' Roundtable
Friday December 16th 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Meeting at the Austin Dispute Resolution Center
Welcome back to In-Person for our December Ethics Roundtable Meeting at the Austin DRC!
We are very excited to host our first In-Person AMA meeting in more than two years! For this special meeting, AMA will be providing sandwich lunch boxes (including vegetarian options) from Apple Spice Catering. We kindly request that you register in advance so that we have an accurate count for ordering lunch boxes.
The meeting will be an Ethics Roundtable, led by Clay Avery, AMA Treasurer, attorney, mediator, and mediation coach. Mediation, like any dispute resolution method, demands that third-party neutrals adhere to a high standard of ethical conduct. If a mediator behaves in an unethical manner, that mediator runs the risk of sacrificing their credibility and possibly tainting the entire process.
Let's Get Ethical: A Mediators' Roundtable will be a review of the ethical guidelines for practicing Texas mediators from the Texas Civil Practice & Remedies Code Chapter 154 as well as the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association's Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. The ethics review will be followed by a frank and open discussion on what it means to be an ethical mediator. Examples, both real and hypothetical, will be discussed. Topics intended to be discussed include:
- Confidentiality: What is it (really), and why is it important?
- Impartiality: Is your bias showing?
- Professional conduct for the practicing mediator
- Logistical Mediation Issues: Getting there is half the journey.
This meeting will count for 1 hour of ethics continuing education. 1 hour of MCLE, including 1 hour of ethics has been approved by the State Bar of Texas.
See additional details near the bottom of this message.
