AAM Meetings
Next meeting is....
The next meeting of AAM (in conjunction with Austin Dispute Resolution Center) is on Friday, February 17, 2012. This meeting will begin at 11:30 for networking and the one-hour presentation begins at noon.
We're delighted to welcome as our speaker Karl Slaikeu, Austin-based psychologist and mediator. He will be sharing his experiences in Afghanistan using conflict resolution tools while embedded as a social scientist with the US Army. Living in tents, patrolling with soldiers and interviewing villagers and elders, his job was to conduct research and advise commanders and staff on adjustments to stability operations that would address the needs of the local population.
Dr. Slaikeu is co-author with Ralph H. Hasson of Controlling the Costs of Conflict: How to Design a System for Your Organization (Jossey-Bass, 1998) and author of When Push Comes to Shove: A Practical Guide to Mediating Disputes (Jossey-Bass, 1996), as well as other books and numerous articles on crisis and conflict management. Dr. Slaikeu received his B.A. from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his M.A. and Ph.D. from The State University of New York at Buffalo, in addition to an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary.
The meeting will be at the DRC at 5407 North IH35, Suite 410, Austin.
Join us at the Dispute Resolution Center. As always, this is free of charge to all interested people, with a light lunch provided. We hope to see you there!
